Why it matters: First-year students in the school's accounting, e-commerce, finance, hospitality and international business degrees met peers through team-based case missions.

According to Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM), the student council of its School of Economics and Management staged a welcome event, named SEM-Bezzled, on 18 October 2026 for those starting at the school this academic year.

The university reported about 160 attendees split into 10 groups, a mix of council members, facilitators, game masters and newcomers drawn from all five of the school's degree programmes.

XMUM said those taking part held nationalities such as Malaysian, Chinese, Indonesian, Burmese, Russian, Zambian, Tunisian, Yemeni, Kazakh and Uzbek.

The university described the programme, overseen by advisers Dr Tan Khar Mang and Dr Liu Lingzi, as a staged inquiry into company embezzlement, combining games, briefings and group tasks meant to develop cooperation, analytical reasoning and communication skills.
