Why it matters: McMaster students taking the new Ogwahwejahsnye’ course study river health on the water, through a Six Nations-led Haudenosaunee framework.

McMaster University reported that it has introduced a new land-based course in which students went out on the water to study river health.

According to the university, the course is taught through a Haudenosaunee framework that is led by Six Nations.

The course is titled Ogwahwejahsnye’, which the university translates as 'We look after or take care of the earth'.

McMaster said the course aims to give students a deeper understanding of river health, with learning taking place outside classrooms and labs.
