Mbarara University hosts MPs and cancer institute over proposed cancer centre at Kihumuro campus
Mbarara University of Science and Technology received Ugandan MPs and Uganda Cancer Institute officials on 20 October for talks on placing a planned regional cancer centre on its main campus.
Why it matters: Mbarara University of Science and Technology's Kihumuro Main Campus is the proposed location of a planned cancer centre under discussion with MPs and the Uganda Cancer Institute.
Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) said that on 20 October 2026 it received MPs sitting on Parliament's national economy committee, together with officials from the Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI).
The university reported that the talks centred on a plan to set up the Western Uganda Regional Cancer Centre on its Kihumuro Main Campus.
According to MUST, the planned facility is meant to make specialist cancer treatment available nearer to the communities that need it.

The cancer centre is still a proposal that MUST has discussed with MPs and UCI officials; if the plan goes ahead, the university's Kihumuro Main Campus would become a base for specialist cancer treatment for nearby communities.
