Why it matters: Students at non-local universities can enter HKUST's long-running venture competition through a dedicated international track alongside the HKUST community.

HKUST said its Entrepreneurship Center and the Sino Group co-organise the annual HKUST-SINO One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition, which began in 2011.

According to the university, this year's competition had two tracks: an HKUST Track for its students, postdocs, alumni, researchers, faculty, staff and startups using HKUST-licensed technology, and an International Student Track for students at non-local universities worldwide.

The university said the competition lets participants test business models, pitch solutions and meet potential investors and industry partners, and that entrants are encouraged to build technology- and innovation-driven ventures rather than focusing purely on business.
