HKUST sets up HK$100 million fund to help its RAISe+ teams commercialise research
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology has created a HK$100 million fund giving money and commercialisation help to its research teams in the Hong Kong government's RAISe+ scheme.
Why it matters: HKUST research teams in the government's RAISe+ scheme gain access to a dedicated HK$100 million pot of funding and support for bringing their work to market.
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) said in its October roundup that it had recently announced a HK$100 million RAISe+ Project Fund.
HKUST said the fund is for its research teams involved in RAISe+, a Hong Kong SAR government scheme bringing together research, academia and industry, and will offer them both funding and customised help with commercialisation.
According to the university, the fund will build teams' skills in managing intellectual property, developing markets and commercialising results, so that research reaches practical use faster.
The same roundup highlighted a Science Advances paper by a team under Prof. Qian Peiyuan on how a deep-sea clam and its bacterial partners withstand shifts in sulphide, and a robot arm that senses touch along its entire length, built by a team under Prof. Shen Yajing.

HKUST teams taking part in RAISe+ are the direct beneficiaries: those that draw on the HK$100 million fund will receive money plus support on intellectual property, market development and commercialisation alongside their government-scheme work.
