Why it matters: National Chengchi University gains a new cooperation memorandum with Mainz, and Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages has renewed its sister-school memorandum with the German university.

Taiwan's Ministry of Education said it invited Mainz president Georg Krausch and the university's head of international affairs, Markus Häfner, to visit Taiwan from 22 to 28 October 2026.

According to the ministry, the delegation signed a new inter-university cooperation memorandum with National Chengchi University and renewed a sister-school memorandum with Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages.

The ministry said the visitors discussed future exchange directions with National Tsing Hua University and National Taiwan Normal University, exchanged views on biomedical technology cooperation with Kaohsiung Medical University, and examined specific cooperation matters with National Sun Yat-sen University within an existing exchange framework.

At a 27 October meeting with Taiwanese university representatives, ministry deputy director-general Chen Li-ying said nearly 3,000 Taiwanese students are pursuing degrees in Germany and more than 1,200 German students are in Taiwan for further study or language learning.
