Why it matters: CNR's CoE-NBT in Lecce is one of eight centres of excellence in the national Fit4MedRob initiative, opened alongside the University of Salento's preclinical infrastructure.

CNR, Italy's National Research Council, said its centre of excellence 'NanoBiomateriali e Tecnologie avanzate' (NanoBiomaterials and Advanced Technologies, CoE-NBT) and the University of Salento's preclinical infrastructure were inaugurated in Lecce.

According to CNR, the two institutions are strengthening research within the Fit4MedRob research initiative, with work ranging from tissue regeneration to better integration of prostheses with the body.

CNR said CoE-NBT is one of eight centres of excellence in the national initiative.
