Maastricht University outreach platform runs 'The Perfect Storm' series on global crises
A Maastricht University platform, set up in 2025 to link arts and social sciences research with society, is staging an event series on how crises such as climate change, war and AI are connected.
Why it matters: People in the Netherlands who feel worried and uncertain about global crises are the audience Maastricht University's outreach platform is targeting with the series.
Maastricht University reported that its Platform for Outreach and Co-Creation (POCC) is organising an event series called The Perfect Storm, covering climate change, the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, economic uncertainty, migration and the rise of AI.
POCC coordinator Dr Mariëlle Wijermars said the series examines the different crises in depth, explores how they are linked and offers new perspectives to help people cope.
According to the university, the POCC was set up in 2025 to connect research at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASoS) with society.
Wijermars said the platform helps academics maintain links with media, policymakers and civil society and build partnerships beyond academia, working with regional partners including Studio Europa.
