Why it matters: Health professionals in German chest pain units seeking the 'Chest Pain Unit' additional qualification are the group this Mainz curriculum is written for.

The Centre for Cardiology at Universitätsmedizin Mainz, the university medical centre in Mainz, has developed a curriculum for specialist nurse training in 'Chest Pain Unit' care, according to the institution.

The German Cardiac Society (DGK) has published the training curriculum in the journal 'Die Kardiologie'.

Mainz University Medicine said this gives multiprofessional health teams in chest pain units a uniform qualification standard across Germany for the first time, under which training for the 'Chest Pain Unit' additional qualification is mandatory.

According to the institution, the curriculum sets out the knowledge, skills and competences that health professionals need for this specialised work.
