Why it matters: KNUST counts among its fine arts graduates the 2026 Arnold Bode Prize winner, whose jury cited his educational and cultural projects in Ghana.

The German city of Kassel has named Ibrahim Mahama, a graduate of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, as its 2026 Arnold Bode Prize laureate, an award worth €10,000, the university reported.

According to the university, the jury honoured his contemporary art practice and his work creating openings for Ghanaian artists and young people.

Mahama, who was born in Tamale in 1987, completed a painting degree at KNUST in 2010, followed by a master's in painting and sculpture there in 2013, the university said.

Created in 1980, the award carries the name of Arnold Bode, the artist and curator who launched documenta, Kassel's international exhibition of contemporary art.
