Zagreb chemical engineering faculty joins seven European partners in EU twinning project

CaSCaDES, an EU Twinning project, sets out to lift both the science and the research administration of a University of Zagreb faculty that has never led a Horizon Europe project.

Why it matters: Researchers and support staff at Zagreb's chemical engineering faculty are set to receive training in intellectual property, innovation and writing Horizon bids.

The CORDIS record lists CaSCaDES as a Horizon Europe coordination and support action in the widening-participation strand, focused on the University of Zagreb's Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology (FCET).

According to the project summary, FCET produces strong science but has not yet coordinated any Horizon Europe project and rates poorly on research-management maturity in five areas.

FCET is teamed with seven European partners, named as CSIC, DTU, UGOE, UAM, UT, PROZO and SUSMOM, on shared research into a two-stage enzyme cascade that produces non-canonical amino acids.

The plan combines staff exchanges, visiting experts, short courses, mentoring and job-shadowing with an advisory committee at faculty level, staffed by people trained in the project, to keep new support practices running afterwards.

FCET staff are the direct beneficiaries; if the plan is carried out, an advisory committee backed by faculty management is meant to keep the new governance and research-support routines in place once the project ends.
