Why it matters: Xiamen University Malaysia's energy and chemical engineering school now has two professors holding 2026 National Academic Awards.

Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) said two professors from its energy and chemical engineering school, Ong Wee Jun and Yong Wai Fen, were among this year's recipients of the Anugerah Akademik Negara (AAN, National Academic Award), conferred by Malaysia's Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).

Ong was given the Promising Academic Award, while Yong took the science category of the Journal Paper Publication Award, the university said.

Higher Education Minister Zambry Abd Kadir officiated at the ceremony, which was held in Klang, Selangor, on 30 October 2026.

XMUM described the AAN, created in 2006, as the ministry's top honour for outstanding academic work in Malaysia, recognising teaching, research and innovation.
