Tec de Monterrey mechatronics student completes eight-day simulated Mars mission
Abraham Romo, a mechatronics engineering student at Tec de Monterrey's Aguascalientes campus, completed an analogue Mars mission in which he focused on designing and testing 3D-printed tools.
Why it matters: Tec de Monterrey's Aguascalientes campus reports that one of its fifth-semester mechatronics students completed an analogue Mars mission alongside crew from Poland, India and Nigeria.
Tec de Monterrey reported that Abraham Romo, a fifth-semester mechatronics engineering student at its Aguascalientes campus, completed a Martian analogue space mission at the Analog Astronaut Training Center.
According to Romo, the mission simulated conditions of a stay on Mars over eight days, and his research centred on the design and testing of tools made by 3D printing.
The university said he shared the facility with crew members from Poland, India and Nigeria, who carried out individual projects and worked together on research activities.
Romo said such missions test projects that could be used in future space exploration, aiming to improve safety and preparation before use off the planet.
