Why it matters: Six Taiwanese universities that train teachers, including National Taiwan Normal University, held talks with HOGENT on possible future teacher-education cooperation.

Taiwan's Ministry of Education said it invited Lincy Van Twembeke, dean of HOGENT's teacher education school, and Liesbeth Van Heck, its head of educational development and international affairs, to visit Taiwan from 1 to 6 November 2026 to discuss concrete cooperation projects.

According to the ministry, the delegation visited National Taiwan Normal University, National Taipei University of Education, National Tsing Hua University, National Taichung University of Education, National Sun Yat-sen University and National Pingtung University, and identified many directions for future cooperation.

The ministry said the delegation also visited Checheng Elementary School in Pingtung, which is expected to visit Belgium next year, and that a group of Taiwan's Teacher Excellence Award recipients had visited HOGENT and its affiliated primary school in April.

Political Deputy Minister Chang Liao Wan-chien told the delegation on 2 November that the ministry has introduced varied teacher-training routes, such as post-bachelor education credit classes and publicly funded cohorts, and has raised teaching-internship stipends and support for publicly funded students.
