Why it matters: The seven Taiwanese universities and Academia Sinica visited are being encouraged by the ministry to build faculty and student visits, graduate training and joint research with CWRU.

Taiwan's Ministry of Education said it invited Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) president Eric W. Kaler to lead a six-member delegation to Taiwan from 1 to 8 November 2026, visiting seven universities and Academia Sinica, Taiwan's national research academy.

According to the ministry, the delegation visited National Sun Yat-sen, National Cheng Kung, National Chung Hsing and National Tsing Hua universities to discuss chemistry, chemical and biomedical engineering, regenerative medicine and materials science, as well as Mandarin learning, student exchange, dual degrees and graduate mobility.

The ministry said health-focused talks took place at Chang Gung University, Taipei Medical University and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, covering nursing, cancer and precision medicine, translational medicine and smart healthcare.

The ministry stated it will encourage the institutions visited to follow up with faculty and student visits, graduate training and joint research according to each side's expertise and needs.
