Why it matters: The Cajamarca school's students and staff can continue teacher-training programmes under a six-year renewable licence covering seven programmes.

Peru's Ministry of Education (Minedu) handed the public teacher-training school "Hno. Victorino Elorz Goicoechea" in Cajamarca ministerial resolution No. 649-2026-MINEDU, granting it institutional licensing and certifying that it meets basic quality conditions, the ministry said.

According to the ministry, the licence authorises the school to offer higher education in teacher training across 7 programmes for a renewable period of 6 years.

The resolution was presented by Vice-Minister of Institutional Management Luis Antonio Aleman on behalf of Education Minister José Antonio Chang at a ceremony that also marked the institution's 84th anniversary.

Aleman said the school, originally named the Escuela Normal de Varones de Primer Grado, had become a benchmark for initial teacher education in Cajamarca and northern Peru.
