Lara Torletti Daniluk, a graduate of Argentina's UNRN, won first prize in the undergraduate category of INVAP's national engineering thesis contest for Gamma Tracker, a prototype probe.
Why it matters: Lara Torletti Daniluk, a UNRN graduate, holds a national first prize for undergraduate thesis work on her Gamma Tracker prototype.
Agencia CTyS reported that UNRN (Universidad Nacional de Río Negro) graduate Lara Torletti Daniluk won first prize in the undergraduate category of the National Contest for the Best Engineering Theses, organised by INVAP.
According to the report, the prize-winning work is Gamma Tracker, a prototype she designed to detect gamma radiation during a laparoscopy.
On the radio programme Aulas Argentinas, Torletti Daniluk explained how the device works; the agency described the probe as a 'compass' for locating tumours during surgery.
