Kyoto University gives international students AED practice and disaster-readiness lecture
A Kyoto University team serving overseas students held an autumn-semester safety workshop on 28 October 2026, pairing a talk on emergency readiness with hands-on AED and fire-extinguisher practice.
Why it matters: International students at Kyoto University were offered training on Japan's emergency alerts, disaster response and AED use, delivered with help from local firefighters.
Kyoto University said its International Students Information Team (KUISIT), a unit within its Academic Affairs Department, ran an autumn-semester disaster preparedness workshop on 28 October 2026.
According to the university, the session was supported by the Shishigatani Branch of the Sakyo Fire Department, as well as by the Kyoto Prefectural International Center.
Rudy Salgarolo, a managing member of Kyōnect LLC, opened with a talk explaining Japan's alert levels, what to do when a disaster strikes and routine readiness steps such as packing a go-bag, the university reported.
In the second part, Sakyo firefighters walked attendees through CPR and defibrillator use before each practised in turn, and interested students could also try putting out fires using VR and practice extinguishers, the university said.
