Why it matters: The Bielefeld and Vienna research teams in the CHEM-SCAN project have published their new microscopy method in the journal Optica.

Researchers from the universities of Bielefeld and Vienna developed a new microscopy method within the European project CHEM-SCAN, according to the announcement.

The method makes the smallest cell structures visible while also showing how their molecular environment changes, the announcement said.

According to the announcement, the technique should in future give more precise answers on how cells react to medicines.

The results were published in the journal Optica.
