Why it matters: KNUST's School of Medical Sciences, where Dr Eghan qualified in 2018, has a graduate ranked top among the college's 2026 Internal Medicine Membership candidates.

KNUST said Dr Esther Eghan, one of its alumnae, received the 2026 Ayo Iyun Prize after being judged the top Membership candidate in the Internal Medicine faculty of the West African College of Physicians (WACP).

The university said the prize honours how she performed in the college's postgraduate medical exams, a process that starts with computer-based screening and moves on to clinical and practical tests for those who pass.

According to KNUST, Ghana's Medical and Dental Council register shows she gained her MB ChB (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) from the university's School of Medical Sciences in 2018, and her professional profile describes her as a resident in Internal Medicine at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

KNUST described the WACP, set up in 1976, as providing specialist postgraduate training to doctors across West Africa in areas such as Internal Medicine, Paediatrics and Psychiatry.
