Why it matters: Researchers in IPB University's Blue Economy Research Cluster project, led by Prof Hefni Effendi, are the direct recipients of the SCOPE-HE grant.

IPB University said DAAD (the German Academic Exchange Service) President Prof Joybrato Mukherjee made an official visit to its Dramaga Campus on 22 October, and that it was the only Indonesian university chosen to host him.

According to the university, IPB University was one of only three recipients of a SCOPE-HE (EU-ASEAN Sustainable Connectivity Package-Higher Education) grant, selected from more than 120 proposals.

The winning project, led by Prof Hefni Effendi, will develop a Blue Economy Research Cluster, the university said.

Rector Dr Alim Setiawan Slamet described the relationship with DAAD as a strategic partnership, noting that more than 100 DAAD alumni work among IPB University's lecturers and researchers.
