ULB signs cooperation agreement with Taiwan's Cheng Kung University on ministry-hosted visit
A delegation from Belgium's Université libre de Bruxelles, invited by Taiwan's Ministry of Education, toured Taiwanese universities from 17 to 24 October and signed an agreement with National Cheng Kung University.
Why it matters: ULB and National Cheng Kung University now have a signed agreement that the ministry says lays the basis for further academic exchange and cooperation between them.
Taiwan's Ministry of Education said it invited a delegation from the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB), led by Anne Weyembergh, its vice-rector for external relations and development cooperation, to visit Taiwan from 17 to 24 October.
According to the ministry, ULB signed a cooperation agreement with National Cheng Kung University during the visit, with talks also covering institutional partnerships, staff and student exchange and joint research.
The ministry said artificial intelligence and its social uses were a focus, citing FARI, an AI-for-public-good research initiative set up jointly by ULB and Vrije Universiteit Brussel in which delegation member Professor Tom Lenaerts is involved.
On 20 October the director-general of the ministry's Department of International and Cross-Strait Education met the delegation together with representatives of National Taiwan University, National Chengchi University and the Taipei City Government, the ministry said.

ULB and National Cheng Kung University are the parties directly bound by the new agreement, which the ministry describes as the foundation for their future academic exchange; the ministry said it hopes the visit, which ends on 24 October, leads to more long-term cross-institutional and cross-disciplinary cooperation.
