IPB University acts as a local hub for IEEE's Global Ocean Robotics Day
Indonesia's IPB University, through its marine robotics club, joined nine universities in other countries as local hubs for an international ocean robotics event run by an IEEE robotics society.
Why it matters: IPB University's MITR Club gained a role alongside nine university hubs abroad, which the university presents as a route to wider marine-technology collaboration.
IPB University said it served as one of the local hubs for Global Ocean Robotics Day, an international activity organised by the Distributed Online Technical Activity (DOT) of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (IEEE RAS).
According to the university, it took part through its Marine Instrumentation, Telemetry, and Robotics (MITR) Club, alongside hubs at institutions including Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, the University of Queensland, IIT Madras, Harbin Engineering University and Universidade Federal Fluminense.
The university reported that MITR exhibited its underwater robots from the first to the eighth generation, and that participants heard presentations by two international speakers, Abhilash Somayajula and Jaejeong Shin.
Prof Indra Jaya, representing IPB University, said marine robotics development at the university has run for more than a decade and that the hub role offers a chance to broaden international collaboration.
