University of Cyprus twins with Oxford and Valencia on AI tools against disinformation
An EU-funded Twinning project, AI-RESIST, aims to build the University of Cyprus's research capacity in trustworthy AI for detecting propaganda and foreign information manipulation, with Oxford and Valencia as partners.
Why it matters: Researchers and early-career staff at the University of Cyprus are the main beneficiaries of the planned training, joint research and new Trustworthy AI & FIMI Unit.
According to CORDIS, AI-RESIST is a Twinning project intended to strengthen the University of Cyprus's research and innovation capacity in trustworthy AI for countering propaganda, polarisation and foreign information manipulation.
The project links the University of Cyprus with the University of Oxford and the Universitat Politècnica de València, drawing on expertise in AI safety, interpretability and computational propaganda.
The project description says it will set up a sustainable Trustworthy AI & FIMI (foreign information manipulation and interference) Unit at the university and deliver open-source tools, datasets and policy-relevant outputs.
It is funded under Horizon Europe's Widening participation and spreading excellence strand as a Coordination and Support Action.
