Why it matters: According to the university, two UNAL students in physics and biology will take spacecraft-cooling and lunar-recycling projects to NASA.

Universidad Nacional de Colombia said physics student Simón Jiménez Reyes and biology student Ana María Maldonado Castro were admitted to an educational programme that concludes with a week at NASA's visitor centre in Houston.

According to the university, Jiménez Reyes designed a system to cool a spacecraft's computers only in the places where they heat up most.

The university said Maldonado Castro proposes a system that would turn astronauts' waste into water and energy for a base on the Moon.
