Two Kyoto University campus fire brigade teams win excellence awards at Sakyo contest
Brigades from Kyoto University's Yoshida Campus East and West each received an Excellence Award at the 51st Sakyo self-defence fire brigade training competition, matching their result from last year.
Why it matters: Kyoto University's Yoshida Campus East and West in-house fire brigades took Excellence Awards for the second year running at the Sakyo competition.
Kyoto University said the 51st Sakyo Self-Defence Fire Brigade Training Competition took place on 19 October 2026 at the Kyoto City fire activities training centre.
According to the university, the Yoshida Campus East brigade entered one team in the outdoor fire hydrant drill category and the Yoshida Campus West brigade entered one team in the indoor fire hydrant drill category.
The university reported that both teams received an Excellence Award, as they had the previous year.
The university said taking part reaffirmed the importance of teamwork and disaster-prevention awareness and heightened members' commitment to strengthening disaster preparedness on campus.
