Nazarbayev University team wins KZT 2 billion to develop battery materials from local raw materials
A Nazarbayev University research team has received KZT 2 billion in Kazakh government programme-targeted funding for a three-year project on lithium-ion battery materials made from domestic raw materials.
Why it matters: Nazarbayev University researchers working on lithium-ion battery materials now have KZT 2 billion in government funding for a programme running from 2026 to 2028.
Nazarbayev University (NU) said a research team has secured KZT 2 billion through the government's Program Targeted Funding scheme.
According to the university, the money will support development of technologies to produce lithium-ion battery materials from raw materials sourced within Kazakhstan.
The programme runs for three years, from 2026 to 2028.
NU described the programme as a step towards greater technological independence for Kazakhstan, less reliance on imported battery materials and higher-value products from domestic raw materials.
