Why it matters: GJU students on the trip saw at first hand the smart transport and monitoring tools Greater Amman Municipality relies on to handle congestion, crashes and road safety.

Students from the German Jordanian University (GJU) made a study visit to Greater Amman Municipality's Traffic Control Unit, arranged by the university's Road Safety Centre of Excellence together with its Deanship of Student Affairs, GJU said.

According to GJU, the group learned how the unit oversees traffic throughout the capital and about the technology it uses to follow vehicles and interpret traffic data.

The programme also covered how the unit responds to jams and collisions, and how its control systems help vehicles move more smoothly and make roads safer, the university said.

GJU presented the trip as one of its ongoing attempts to link classroom learning with hands-on experience and to inform students about advances in road safety and smart transport.
