German Jordanian University hosts two-day Jordan–Germany symposium on mental health in crises
A school at the German Jordanian University ran a two-day international meeting on social work and mental health during crises, bringing together participants from Jordan and Germany.
Why it matters: Scholars and practitioners from Jordan and Germany working on social work and mental health in crisis settings took part in the two-day exchange.
The German Jordanian University (GJU) said its School of Applied Humanities and Social Sciences organised a two-day international symposium on social work and mental health in crisis situations, focused on linking theory, research and practice.
According to the university, those attending included scholars, researchers and specialists, along with people representing universities and professional bodies in Jordan and Germany.
The university said sessions examined the mental and social pressures that crises place on people and communities, and how professional practice could be improved and research better tied to its practical use.
GJU President Prof. Ala’aldeen Al-Halhouli spoke about universities' duty to society, the need to connect research with practice and train skilled professionals, and the value of international cooperation, the university reported.
