Why it matters: Georgia Tech undergraduate and graduate students who cannot be home for Thanksgiving have until 19 November to sign up for a hosted meal.

Georgia Tech said sign-ups for Home for the Holidays, run by its undergraduate Student Government Association, remain open until Thursday 19 November.

According to the university, the yearly scheme links undergraduate and graduate students who may not get home for the holiday with a nearby faculty, staff or alumni host to share a meal.

The university said its student body is drawn from every US state and 146 countries, and that each host usually takes in two to six students.

Andrew Tso, the association's executive vice president, said the goal is that nobody is left on their own over the holiday, including students unfamiliar with Thanksgiving.
