Why it matters: Georgia Tech students, faculty and staff can now use the access and exclusive perks the High Museum offers through its affiliate scheme.

Georgia Tech announced that it is the most recent institution to join the High Museum of Art's Academic Affiliate program.

According to the university, membership gives its students and employees access and exclusive perks, tying the Institute more closely to the museum's collections, events and scholarship.

Rand Suffolk, the museum's director, said the two sides had already cooperated on research and resource sharing, citing the Paper Trees exhibition now on show and a study of visitor experience, and noted the link-up falls in the museum's hundredth year.

Jason Freeman, associate vice provost for the arts at Georgia Tech, said the arts are central to the Georgia Tech experience.
