Freie Universität Berlin-led study projects longer, wider and more severe future heatwaves
A study led by a Freie Universität Berlin researcher and published in Nature Communications finds that future heatwaves could exceed those of recent years in duration, extent and severity.
Why it matters: The Freie Universität Berlin team behind the Nature Communications study reports that recent extreme heatwaves may preview worse events driven by climate change.
A new study led by Philipp Aglas-Leitner of Freie Universität Berlin has been published in the journal Nature Communications, according to a release distributed via idw.
The study finds that future heatwaves could last longer, affect larger areas and be considerably more severe, the release said.
According to the release, the extreme heatwaves of the last few years may serve only as a preview of what climate change will bring.
