Why it matters: Tec de Monterrey students aiming for motorsport or automotive careers were told the skills they need depend on the specific area and category they target.

Tec de Monterrey reported that its School of Engineering and Sciences organised a panel at which four alumni working in the United Kingdom shared their career experiences and recommendations with students.

According to the university, the panellists included Aarón Gómez of Aston Martin, Diego Botín of TGR Haas F1 Team and Luis Franco of Aston Martin Racing / Prodrive, alongside mechanical engineer Pablo Mendieta.

The university said the four discussed the difficulties of entering the industry and the openings available both in engineering and in other disciplines.

The panellists agreed that students should first identify which part of motorsport or the automotive industry interests them, such as Formula 1, WEC, rally, aerodynamics, engines or simulation, because required skills vary between roles and categories.
