University Alliance welcomes Budget spinout support but says universities need backing
University Alliance, a UK university group, said the Autumn Budget brings new funding for researchers to commercialise discoveries and support for spinouts. It also said universities still need backing to deliver growth.
Why it matters: Researchers commercialising discoveries and spinout founders, particularly women founders, are named in the Budget measures University Alliance highlighted.
Vanessa Wilson, chief executive of University Alliance, responded to the Autumn Budget delivered by Chancellor John Healey, saying it contained a series of measures meant to strengthen the UK's innovation economy.
According to Wilson, the measures include new funding to help researchers turn discoveries into commercial ventures, plus support for university spinouts and entrepreneurs, particularly women founders.
University Alliance headlined its response with the message that universities still need backing to deliver growth.
