Why it matters: McMaster faculty, staff and students heard their provost say the university will need to make choices about where it can have the greatest impact.

Maureen MacDonald, McMaster University's Provost and Vice-President (Academic), delivered the 2026 State of the Academy address to faculty, staff and students in Convocation Hall, according to the university.

MacDonald said the university's next chapter will depend on how well it builds on its academic strengths and concentrates its resources.

She also said McMaster must make choices about the areas where it can achieve the greatest impact.
