KNUST and GIZ Ghana seek firms to help train and place 120 young Ghanaians in AI
Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and GIZ Ghana want private companies to join an AI programme that swaps free staff training for graduate placements.
Why it matters: Ghanaian companies that sign up would send two staff for free AI training and take on two programme graduates as interns, contractors or employees.
Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and GIZ Ghana said they are looking for private-sector companies to support AI training and job placements for a minimum of 120 young Ghanaian workers and graduates of tertiary institutions.
Under the 'Train 2, Place 2' model of the AI for Professionals Programme, which KNUST implements with GIZ Ghana, each partner firm would put forward a pair of its staff for training at no cost and take on two people who complete the course as interns, on project contracts or in permanent roles.
The call was made at a stakeholder session in Accra, where companies, development partners and government officials discussed which capabilities firms need as AI reshapes work, and companies were asked to point out where skills are lacking, contribute to course content and propose real business problems for trainees to tackle in supervised projects.
Dr Emmanuel Ahene of KNUST, who leads the programme as its lead consultant, said AI capabilities are carrying growing weight in hiring.

If Ghanaian employers sign up, each would commit both to releasing two staff for free AI training and to offering work to two programme graduates, with the option of feeding business problems and skills needs into the course.
