Khon Kaen University's 'Non Zapp' sleep apnoea appliance takes Thai national research award
A dental device for snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea, which began as student work at Khon Kaen University, has been honoured by the National Research Council of Thailand.
Why it matters: Khon Kaen University's Faculty of Dentistry has won national recognition for a student-originated device it says could help more patients obtain sleep apnoea treatment.
Khon Kaen University (KKU) said the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) honoured its 'Non Zapp' oral appliance, which treats snoring and sleep apnoea, in a category titled 'Research and Innovation Addressing National Needs'.
The university said the appliance originated in research carried out by students and holds FDA registration as a medical device.
According to KKU, the goal of the device is to widen access to care for patients with obstructive sleep apnoea.
The dentistry dean, Assistant Professor Ajiravudh Subarnbhesaj, and Professor Jarin Paphangkorakit collected the honour for the university.
