Why it matters: HKUST is named by Du Xiaoman's chief executive as a continuing research partner, with the company pledging to deepen cooperation with the university after the launch.

According to HKUST, Du Xiaoman, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the Hong Kong Generative AI Research and Development Centre (HKGAI) jointly released the XuanYuan 4.5 financial enhanced large model at the opening ceremony of Hong Kong FinTech Week 2026.

The partners said the model raises performance by 30% in core finance tasks such as customer acquisition, risk control and customer management, at about a tenth of the cost of general-purpose models.

Guo Yike, HKUST's chief vice-president (首席副校長), called XuanYuan 4.5 the industry's first self-evolving financial enhanced large model, while Du Xiaoman chief executive Zhu Guang said the company will keep deepening research cooperation with HKUST and work with HKGAI to open up international markets.

HKUST said the release continues a partnership under which Du Xiaoman and the university set up the HKUST–Du Xiaoman Artificial Intelligence Joint Laboratory in March 2025 and worked with HKGAI on large-model research, including applications in credit risk control.
