Zuyd lector Ties van de Werff to lead Maastricht classical music innovation centre
Ties van de Werff of Zuyd University of Applied Sciences becomes director of the Maastricht Centre for the Innovation of Classical Music, which its three partners have agreed to continue for two more years.
Why it matters: Students and teachers at Conservatorium Maastricht are directly affected, as curriculum innovation there is one of the centre's priorities for the next two years.
Maastricht University reported that Ties van de Werff, a lector at the What Art Knows research centre of Zuyd University, has been appointed to head the Maastricht Centre for the Innovation of Classical Music (MCICM).
The centre is run jointly by Maastricht University, Philzuid and Zuyd's Conservatorium Maastricht, and these partners have agreed to keep it going for another two years.
For the next two years, the centre's priorities include reshaping teaching at Conservatorium Maastricht, staging an experimental concert with Philzuid in 2027, spreading its research findings and putting its own future on a lasting footing.
Van de Werff said that since 2018 the centre has built up novel research projects, a wide international network and numerous experimental performances.
