Warsaw, IBM Zurich and CNRS researchers report room-temperature supersolid phase
Scientists from the University of Warsaw, Poland's Military University of Technology, IBM Research in Zurich and France's CNRS report a supersolid quantum phase at room temperature, published in Science Advances.
Why it matters: Research groups at the University of Warsaw, the Military University of Technology, IBM Research in Zurich and CNRS report the result in Science Advances.
The University of Warsaw said its scientists, together with researchers from the Military University of Technology, IBM Research in Zurich and France's CNRS, observed a new quantum phase of matter known as a supersolid.
According to the university, the phase appeared in a Bose-Einstein condensate made of exciton polaritons.
The university stressed that the effect occurs at room temperature rather than at temperatures close to absolute zero.
The findings were published in the journal Science Advances.

If the room-temperature observation holds, researchers at the University of Warsaw, the Military University of Technology, IBM Research in Zurich and CNRS can study this supersolid phase without cooling the condensate to near absolute zero.
