The University of Warsaw has announced a CoARA Action Plan running from 2026 to 2031, setting directions for improving the way it assesses research and research activity, according to the university's newsroom.

The university describes the document as part of its involvement in CoARA, the international coalition working to improve research assessment systems.

According to the university, the plan defines the scope and framework for introducing CoARA's principles at the institution step by step.

Why it matters

The plan concerns how the university evaluates research and research activity, so it bears directly on academic staff whose work is assessed and on those who run assessment processes.

Because the university frames implementation as gradual over 2026–2031, the announcement sets out direction and a timeframe rather than specific changes to assessment criteria.

What to watch

  • Which specific assessment practices the university will change first, and on what schedule within the 2026–2031 period, is not stated in the announcement.
