Why it matters: Offices that check USP undergraduate credentials will now handle digitally certified XML files, the only format in which the university issues these diplomas.

The University of São Paulo said its undergraduate diplomas are now issued exclusively in digital format.

According to the university, the new diploma is an XML file carrying a digital certification and has legal validity across Brazil.

USP said the digital diploma makes it possible to access the student's academic record data available on the portal of Brazil's Ministry of Education.
