University of Ilorin honours 10 researchers on Stanford–Elsevier Top 2% list, urges mentoring
The vice-chancellor of Nigeria's University of Ilorin asked 10 staff named in the 2026 Stanford–Elsevier Top 2% Scientists database to guide younger colleagues and grow the university's pool of globally recognised scholars.
Why it matters: Early-career researchers at the University of Ilorin are the intended beneficiaries of the mentoring the vice-chancellor asked the 10 listed scientists to provide.
The University of Ilorin said it held a reception on 19 October 2026 for 10 of its researchers listed in the 2026 Stanford–Elsevier Top 2% Scientists database.
According to the university, Vice-Chancellor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole urged the honourees to mentor younger colleagues, share experience and encourage impactful publications.
Prof. Egbewole said the university needed more globally recognised researchers and a greater volume of quality research across its colleges and faculties.
He said the honourees' work had contributed to the university's strong showing in research quality and international academic assessments, the university reported.
