Unicamp licenses patented sucupira and erva-baleeira pain formula to university spin-off
A composition combining two plant species, patented at Brazil's State University of Campinas (Unicamp), has been licensed to a company spun off from the university to target muscle pain and inflammation.
Why it matters: Unicamp's spin-off company now holds a licence to a university-patented plant formula aimed at muscle pain and inflammation.
According to the Jornal da Unicamp, a composition combining the plants sucupira and erva-baleeira was patented at Unicamp.
The university newsroom reported that the patented composition has been licensed to a spin-off company of the university.
Unicamp said the formulation requires a smaller quantity of the plant active ingredient and extends its effect against pain and inflammation.

Unicamp's spin-off company is the party directly affected: if it proceeds with the licensed composition, it will be working with a formulation the university says needs less plant active ingredient and acts for longer against pain and inflammation.
