Why it matters: From 1 December the UCAS board will be chaired by Jarvis, a former Universities UK chief executive, with three newly appointed trustees including a serving vice-chancellor.

UCAS said Alistair Jarvis CBE, who already sits on its board and runs Advance HE, will become its Chair of Trustees, formally starting on 1 December.

According to UCAS, Jarvis spent five years as Chief Executive of Universities UK, then held the post of Pro Vice-Chancellor (Partnerships and Governance) at the University of London, and now chairs UCAS Media, the organisation's commercial arm.

UCAS added that Professor Osama Khan, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University of South Wales, has joined its board as a trustee, as have Kash Ghedia and Luke Sparkes.

In UCAS's view, the three newcomers broaden what the board knows about universities, innovation, running schools, technology and organisational change.
