Why it matters: The rectors' conferences of Spain and Chile, CRUE and CRUCH, have put their leaders' signatures to a joint declaration calling to cooperate, share and build.

On 20 October 2026, CRUE president Julián Garde López-Brea and CRUCH executive vice-president Osvaldo Corrales Jorquera signed a joint declaration, according to CRUE, the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities.

CRUE said the declaration belongs to the second Spain–Chile meeting of rectors, held under the title 'A university alliance at the service of people and Ibero-America'.

According to CRUE, the declaration advocates 'cooperar, compartir y construir' (cooperate, share and build).

Garde López-Brea is also rector of the University of Castilla-La Mancha, and Corrales Jorquera, of CRUCH, the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities, is rector of the University of Valparaíso, CRUE said.
