Why it matters: KTH gains a new assistant professor studying how human cells sense their surroundings, funded by a SEK 15 million five-year grant.

KTH reported that Jan Hansen, a postdoctoral researcher at Stanford University, has been awarded a five-year grant under the Swedish Research Council's (Vetenskapsrådet) strategic recruitment initiative.

According to KTH, the grant totals SEK 15 million and makes it possible for Hansen to start at KTH as a biträdande lektor, an assistant professor post.

KTH said the initiative is intended to give young researchers the opportunity to develop their research.

Hansen's research aims to improve understanding of how human cells sense their environment, KTH said.
