Pronabec, Peru's national scholarships and educational credit programme under the Ministry of Education, said it plans to award 20,000 scholarships during 2027 to widen access to higher education.

According to Pronabec, Education Minister José Antonio Chang said 90% of the scholarships will go to programmes meeting Peruvian labour-market needs, chiefly in fishing, agriculture, mining, high technology, and port and airport infrastructure.

The agency said the total spans its various competitions, including Beca 18, Beca Hijos de Docentes and Beca Tec, covering undergraduate, continuing and postgraduate study in Peru and abroad.

Pronabec said 6,000 of the 20,000 scholarships belong to the Beca 18-2027 call.

Why it matters

The announcement ties most of the planned 2027 scholarships to named economic sectors, but the announcement does not specify which programmes or institutions will qualify.

The 20,000 figure is presented as a projection rather than a confirmed allocation. the announcement does not give a budget, a breakdown between domestic and overseas study, or a split between university and technical education, so the effect on individual providers cannot yet be assessed from this evidence.
