North-West University head Tyobeka calls for a year of action as USAf conference ends
At the close of the three-day conference of Universities South Africa (USAf), North-West University's vice-chancellor urged institutions to back a plea for shared renewal with commitments that can be measured.
Why it matters: Institutions at the USAf conference were asked to translate the event's plea for shared renewal into commitments whose delivery can be measured.
Universities South Africa reported that Professor Bismark Tyobeka, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of North-West University, delivered the closing address at its fourth conference, which ran over three days.
According to USAf, Tyobeka spoke in place of Professor Francis Petersen, who chairs the association.
USAf said Tyobeka pressed institutions to convert the plea for shared renewal made by Dr Phethiwe Matutu at the opening into commitments that can be measured, calling for a year of action.

The address was directed at the institutions attending the conference: if they take it up, the renewal discussed at the opening would have to be set out as measurable commitments over the following year.
