León city hall gives Tec de Monterrey campus its Bandera Ecológica for sustainability
The León campus of Tec de Monterrey has been recognised by the city's environment directorate for its waste, water, energy and environmental education practices.
Why it matters: Tec de Monterrey's León campus and its sustainability committee now hold a municipal environmental distinction tied to its water reuse, waste and energy practices.
Tec de Monterrey reported that its León campus received the Bandera Ecológica (Ecological Flag), granted by the Directorate General of Environment of the León city council, for its work on waste management, water saving and reuse, energy efficiency and environmental education.
According to the university, the campus runs a treatment plant producing one litre of treated water per second, which is used to irrigate green areas and sports courts.
The university said the campus used almost 3 million litres of treated water a month between June 2023 and September 2026.
Verónica Rangel, the campus's sustainability and physical plant lead, said the distinction is both an incentive and a commitment to keep replicating and improving its environmental activities.
